#ows The Berkeley free speech movement started on 16 september 1964, when the University banned civil rights organizing on campus. Students used occupation tactics they had learned from the Black Freedom Struggle. They refused to take down their tables and began nonviolent agitation. The majority of students and faculty remained on the students side and they won their ‘War without Violence’ in january 1965
