Barbara Taylor’s compelling book popped up on my radar again today. In these three paragraphs she describes the establishment of 1,000’s of local anti-Jacobin paramilitary groups who roamed England “reforming England” by rooting out radicals. Anything queer got caught up in their sights and purged. instead of thinking of this as a modern political backlash, think of it as a puritan social discipline movement or a millenarian cleansing. In the following text, Vindication refers the The Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft. Wollstonecraft’s publication is usually credited for launching the Feminist Public Sphere.
